[Review] Sing Street (8/10)
The only way Sing Street came under my radar was that it was recommended as one of the best pictures of 2016. I have not seen a trailer, not even a poster; so this was a treat.
Another coming-of-age movie but coming from Ireland. Written and directed by John Carney, who also gave us the fabulous Once and a much weaker follow-up Begin Again.
Though still not as brilliant as Once, Sing Street still managed to tuck at the heart strings as it told a tale about having the courage to follow your dream.
A great cast of young actors portraying well written and very interesting characters. And if you were like me wondering who why there is that new British guy in Transformers: Age Of Extinction, he was great here and proved his mettle.
The storyline was very relatable as each of us have gone through that in our teen years. Some scenes more realistic and others were lessons that we all could use at that age. Plus I liked how the characters found courage and wisdom as they moved through the story, and presenting to the audience in a clear way.
But what really stood out was of course, like Once, the soundtrack. As a whole, it could even be better than Once because there was only a couple of songs that I really liked from Once. But Sing Street's happier and livelier offerings are easier to listen to.
Let's hope the next movie by Carney will be more like Sing Street and Once than Begin Again.
