In a surprise turn of events, and apparently the solo Venom movie that stems from the Spider-Man universe, is true.
Sony Pictures has just announced the official signing of Tom Hardy to play Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, via a picture of Hardy in a Venom tee shirt on their Twitter account.
However, ComingSoon has confirmed that this Venom movie will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much like how Spider-Man: Homecoming will be.
So does this mean we won't see Venom battling it out with Spider-Man? Which the studio will be able to make it work because in the comics, Venom is an anti-hero who has his own enemies to fight.
Production will start in a few months for a release date of 5 October 2018; just about one and a half years away. Good job to Sony for being able to keep this under the can for so long.
