Jessica Chastain To Join X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Jennifer Lawrence Back!
It has been confirmed that long-time X-Men producer Simon Kinberg has indeed signed on to write and direct the next X-Men installment, Dark Phoenix.
This will be Kinberg's directorial debut and he has big shoes to fill from Bryan Singer, who also has uploaded a picture on his Instagram account with him and Kinberg with the hashtag "torchpass".
But The Hollywood Reporter has announced a more interesting piece of news, which is Jessica Chastain is now in negotiated to play the main villain for the sequel. Her character, Lilandra, will be based on the comic book source material, the empress of an alien empire called the Shi'ar; whose main focus is to destroy the Dark Phoenix.
Chastain is a great choice if she does confirm, as I can picture her as Lilandra. On the flip side, she would have made a great mature Jean Grey / Phoenix, too.
Also another surprising piece of news is that all of the X-Men: Apocalypse cast will return, including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and even Jennifer Lawrence.
We all know that the trio had finished their contracts with Apocalypse but there was an interview during the press junket and asked if she would be back for more, Lawrence said only if McAvoy and Fassbender came back. I guess even back then they already knew another movie was going to happen. But many thought Lawrence was just paying lip service because her performance in that movie was lackluster at best.
And I really disliked how Apocalypse ended with Lawrence's Mystique becoming a leader of sorts for the younger X-Men. Nothing about that made sense and really came out of the blue. But just because Lawrence is the biggest star in the cast, the writers have bend over backwards to make her the central figure for the movie and it just did not serve the story.
But I am excited for another sequel. X-Men: Days Of Future Past is my all-time favourite comic book movie and I would love for the franchise, and the story, to continue.
Dark Phoenix is set to open on 2 November 2018.
