[Review] Short Term 12 (8/10)

Before Brie Larson had Captain Marvel, Room or Kong: Skull Island; she had Short Term 12.

Written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who did such a beautiful job here in both aspects; even though there were slow moments, the pacing never lost its beat and kept the movie intact from start to finish.

But when it slowed down, it really slowed down and watching this at home, I lost focus quite a few times. Right after that though, there will always be something that pulls me right back in. And the topics that they tackle in the short running time of 90 over minutes were painful, heartfelt and real.

Brie was brilliant, the rest of the cast were equally great as when this movie came out, they were all virtually unknowns. Rami Malek, John Gallagher Jr., Stephanie Beatriz, Kaitlyn Dever and Lakeith Stanfield all went on to have bigger careers since the movie came out in 2013.

And the way the movie ended, just like the way it started, but with a slowed down motion of a running sequence; that looked so beautiful that I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen.

I'm really looking forward to Cretton's next film now, which also stars Brie Larson, opposite Woody Harrelson.
