Disney's Aladdin Live-Action Remake Announces Main Cast
Walt Disney Pictures threw a curve ball at the beginning of last week, claiming that they have turned down Riz Ahmed and Dev Patel for the titular role as the search continues worldwide.
But by the weekend on the stages of the D23 Expo, they have revealed the three main cast members that will be under the direction of Guy Ritchie.
Playing Aladdin will be a fresh face, Egyptian named Mena Massoud. Playing opposite him as Princess Jasmine is this year's Power Rangers' Naomi Scott, a.k.a. the Pink Ranger. And taking on the role of voicing the genie is Will Smith.
I have no idea who Massoud is, but I think Scott is an inspired choice to play Jasmine. But all eyes will be on Smith who has the toughest act to follow because Robin Williams was just too iconic in the animated movie.
There is no word yet for a release date, but I am guessing it may possibly be March of 2019; following Cinderella's release period back in 2015.
