[Review] Horrible Bosses 2 (6.5/10)
I believe if you have enjoyed the first movie, it will be easier to enjoy Horrible Bosses 2. I did, and that's why I thought this one - although a step back - was still very entertaining.
Bringing the old supporting cast back was a great idea, even if Kevin Spacey was just talking from behind the jail window. But Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx were still very funny and definitely great to see them once again.
The new players, Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine were the needed additions to the cast; especially Pine who was hilarious. There was this line by Jason Sudeikis when he was watching Pine cry, he said his eyes became bluer and I don't think they did any CGI for it, but his eyes did look bluer. Just the memory of this made the movie memorable again for me.
But this time the movie was written and directed by Sean Anders, who took over from Seth Gordon on directing duties. Though he did bring his own flair to the mix while still keeping the tone and characters intact, but it did suffer a little from the curse of comedy sequels.
The pacing in the middle slowed down a little in a plot that was kind of recycled, hence felt a little tired. Charlie Day's silliness got tired very quickly and sometimes even became an excuse for plot points.
But the third act did pick up again and ended on a high. Still, I don't think we should be getting a third movie from this franchise. Two is plenty.
