Now this news comes as a surprise because Deadpool 2 is still in production and there has not been any confirmation when the Deadpool and Cable-led team, X-Force, would be released.
But today, Deadline has reported that Drew Goddard has been hired to both write and direct the X-Men spin-off ensemble.
Goddard is more well-known for his work as a producer and writer for films such as 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Martian, and the Marvel branded TV series "Daredevil" and "The Defenders". His first directorial The Cabin In The Woods starring another Marvel alum Chris Hemsworth was also a surprise hit.
Goddard was also spearheading The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off, Sinister Six, before that project was canned after the badly-made sequel failed to impress, forcing Sony Pictures to change direction.
He now jumps to 20th Century Fox's Marvel arm and will direct Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, a good possibility Zazie Beetz will reprise her Domino role; while the rest of the cast still unannounced.
No release date has been set but 2019 is a good guess since 2018 will see Fox releasing three X-movies.
