[Review] IT (9/10)

Andres Muschietti must be the new darling of Hollywood in the horror-thriller genre with the super successful IT remake.

And from the movie, the reasons are clear. From the storytelling, the directing, the cinematography, the suspense; everything Muschietti did for this movie were excellent. It was, dare I say, almost perfect.

A big, big part of that was also because of the cast. I'll start off with Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgard; who did fantastic with his portrayal. I am not someone who is already afraid of clowns so Pennywise the character wasn't as scary for me as he was for others. Every time he appeared onscreen, he entertained me. Every time he terrified his victims, he made me laugh. But not in a bad way, I was just highly entertained and was in glee watching him.

Then there was "The Losers Club". These kids, led by Jaeden Lieberher, were amazing. Their chemistry were off the charts and their acting under Muschietti was like a dream team come true.

The story itself was adapted so well. I have not read the original book by Stephen King; but if this was not an accurate representation of King's material, then the book must have been off the charts. Muschietti's pacing from start to finish, was the closest thing to perfection.

The only issue, if I must criticize, would be how Pennywise abduct these kids. To me, he could have done it almost at anytime and any place he wanted. But there was so much terrorizing and not much abducting taking place throughout the second act. Though a slim argument here would be how he needed the kids to be in the worst state of fear before he could successfully do it. That would still be a reach of an explanation though.

Still, I loved everything about this movie from start to finish. And every time there was a reference made to New Kids On The Block just made me cheer.

I cannot wait for the second chapter and I hope Muschiette does come back for seconds.

Also, I just found out about the ending in King's book for this chapter, a much talked-about subject right now - how it never made it to any adaptation onscreen. I for one cannot believe what King did to his characters and preferred to not have that version because it just killed off every ounce of innocence and purity of these kids and the story.
