Walt Disney Pictures is really moving forward with the sequel to Maleficent, and Angelina Jolie has confirmed it as she was recently quoted as saying, "We have been working on the script, and this is going to be a really strong sequel."
According to Deadline, a director has also been confirmed. Joachim Ronning, one of the two directors for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is set to helm the sequel.
Despite a bad critical score and a low turn-out for the first movie in the US, but backed by a strong international result; Disney is going ahead taking another risk with the property. The question is why, because they have so many other properties that are more worthwhile.
Unless they have a really great idea for a sequel, and perhaps also a story that would be bringing Maleficent back to evil instead of being misunderstood.
