[Review] The LEGO Ninjago Movie (3.5/10)

I started to warm up to the subsequent trailers that came out after the first teaser and official trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Somehow I got sucked in to thinking that this was going to defy the initial impressions that I have gotten and going to turn out just as good as the other LEGO properties.

Unfortunately, I very quickly found out, that this was more for the kids than adults.

Most of the jokes just did not work for adults. What we saw onscreen were just colours and bombastic visuals to distract from a very thin storyline that never amounted to anything.

At the end of it, when it came down to the writing to really bring home the father-and-son relationship, the monologue came out in a very weird fashion because Lloyd have no idea what happened to his father. There was no plan being formed to defeat their enemy, and everything conveniently came to its conclusion.

The voice acting for everyone else were fine, except Dave Franco who voiced Lloyd and turned him into a very whiny character that became annoying in the end.

This was not the LEGO movie that I expected and it failed to reach any expectation. Only the first five minutes, perhaps, was worth the watch.
