[Review] Miss Sloane (7.5/10)

If you take a look at Jessica Chastain's body of work, you will see that she actually has been around Hollywood for quite a while. And it is only recently that she has become the name.

Miss Sloane is all about Chastain's performance. From the opening close-up, to the board room introductions, to facing a potential client; Chastain has given some of her best here.

The only problem, for me at least, was that the politics involved were a little too complicated and complex to follow. The dialogue sometimes require some reading between the lines and, I found myself wondering if some of them that I missed were important or not. Then again, I watched this on a plane and not the best form of movie enjoyment.

However, the big negative here was the subplot with Jake Lacy's character which I thought was unnecessary. Even his biggest scene in the third act, if taken out, would not have changed the ending of the movie.

But there were great performances all around, from Mark Strong and Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Michael Stuhlbarg and Alison Pill. And also smaller roles involving John Lithgow and Sam Waterston, who added more talent into the mix.

And the whole movie was in the very capable hands of John Madden who kept the pacing interesting and not lose the audience in the sometimes complex subject matter.
