[Review] Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (7/10)

I did not have a lot of expectation going in, though the trailers looked really fun and promising; but Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is a great reboot for the original.

The cast is what made the movie worked. The chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart is well known to be great, as they have done Central Intelligence together. But adding in Jack Black was a stroke of genius from the producers side. And Karen Gillan held her own as well, for the most part.

The fact that these characters were just avatars of the kids made them even more fun to follow through the story. Even though there were some very jarring differences in terms of personality, clearly in Hart's characters; but he was just so lovable onscreen that I would immediately forgive that fact.

The strongest actor had to be Black, playing a character controlled by a teenage girl. His mannerisms of a girl did not overpower the rest of his acting, it was subtle but obvious enough to hit all the comedic moments. That moment he ran past Hart cracked me up the most

The weakest one, unfortunately there was one, was Gillan. She is naturally so sexy and flirty that I could not buy into her performance when she acted that she was having a difficult time trying to be flirty.

And which was very unnecessary to begin with because she could have just walked up to them and kicked their asses. Why the whole charade?

The way the Jumanji board game got updated into a video game was explained very simply but it still worked. I didn't ask questions about it and just moved on with the plot. And the ending that played out similarly to the original was something that I didn't know I wanted but really enjoyed it.

Sure, the original movie was definitely more superior in terms of introducing the audience to this universe; but also it had more layers for its characters and story. This reboot was just simply for entertainment and fun, and it checked all those boxes very well.
