Fox Announces Even More X-Movies Despite Disney Merger
As the Walt Disney Pictures and 20th Century Fox merger continues to inch forward, Fox in the meantime is going full throttle with even more X-Movies.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Fox has committed to 3 spin-off movies from the X-Universe and also from the Fantastic Four brand for 2019 and 2020.
This year we are already getting Deadpool 2 as well as X-Men: Dark Phoenix. New Mutants was supposed to be 2018 too but due to reshoots, it will now be out on 22 February 2019; and THR is citing that the reshoots are due to the introduction of a new character. Sounds like something really went wrong in test screenings?
We have also heard rumours that the Gambit solo movie, with or without Channing Tatum (but at this point it is likely to be with), has been greenlit for 7 June 2019.
There is a rumoured Kitty Pryde solo movie in the works from Brian Michael Bendis and Deadpool director Tim Miller. Pryde was last seen portrayed by Ellen Page in Days Of Future Past.
The X-Force movie, which will feature both Deadpool and Cable from the upcoming untitled Deadpool 2 movie, will start filming this October with Drew Goddard at the helm.
Either of the above is likely to take the placeholder dates of 22 November 2019 and 13 March 2020, which I'm guessing X-Force will take the former as it is further along in production at this point.
Rounding out the 2020 dates will be Fox taking another crack at the Fantastic Four franchise with a Doctor Doom and Silver Surfer solo title. Either of which be released on 26 June 2020 and 2 October 2020.
However, if the merger does happen with Disney and soon, we could see Disney scraping any one of these if they don't see their potential; or if Kevin Feige's team are going to recreate these characters inside the current MCU - or as a standalone universe. Or Disney may let their Fox arm do as they please should the upcoming titles prove to be successful.
So many possibilities in such a limited amount of time, and that is why 2019 onwards is still very volatile at this point and all the effort put in today by Fox's staff may just go into the bin for all they know.
