X-Men: Dark Phoenix And The New Mutants Are Delayed, Again

Twentieth Century Fox has announced another push-back on its X-Men spin-off, The New Mutants, as well as the its fourth installment, X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

THE NEW MUTANTS

New Mutants is taking a lot of hits lately as this will be the second time it is being pushed further into 2019. The original date was next month, 18 April 2018. The first delay saw it move to 22 February 2019, almost a one-year delay. And now it is almost a year and a half with a new release date of 2 August 2019.

Reason for this, according to Collider, is that even though the movie tested well in an initial test audience screening, it was not scary enough. That was the reason for the first delay. But now, it is being reported that the studio wants New Mutants to stand out even more in terms of its tone, much like how Logan and Deadpool are completely different and went on to achieve huge success.

This has left director Josh Boone bumping heads with the studio because Boone is actually happy with what he has delivered. Now it is also reported that there will be one or two completely new characters that will be included into the cast and they will be playing major roles in the movie as well. And Boone would have to be reshooting about 50% of the entire movie.

Only time will tell if the studio is right to push for such an extensive reshoot. Here's hoping this will not be a repeat of Fantastic Four.

DARK PHOENIX

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is maybe a different story. It was supposed to come out 2 November 2018 but now has a new release date of 14 February 2019.

For a blockbuster of this magnitude, after the initial test audience screening, they now go into the expected reshoots. But because of the A-list level cast that it has, the only time for everyone to get together again is later this year, August or September time frame. That leaves just a little over a month or so for all the CGI work. That's why the studio has decided to just push the release a little further in order to get the work done properly, which is at this point good news all around.

Also another good news for those anticipating Bohemian Rhapsody, it has been moved up to take over Dark Phoenix's spot from its original date of 25 December 2018. A much better option as December is just super crowded at this point and it would have been swallowed up by Bumblebee, Mary Poppins and Aquaman.
