[Review] Molly's Game (8.5/10)

Molly's Game would have been one of my top 10 movies of 2017 had I caught it last year.

Screenplay writer Aaron Sorkin turned in his first directorial effort and it is close to a masterpiece, which he wrote the screenplay himself as well. There is just something about his dialogue that makes you listen and pay attention, because every word is just pure entertainment.

And every time I missed a line or word, I want to rewind immediately to catch it again.

Sorkin can direct. He knows how to build up a scene through his words and deliver the emotions. Jessica Chastain was amazing in this movie, although she looked nothing like her character's age - that was my only complaint.

Kevin Costner stepped in to deliver the emotional punch. He didn't even need more than two scenes; under Sorkin's direction and words, they were able to get there in just that one conversation on the bench.

Plus a strong supporting cast in Idris Elba, Michael Cera, Jeremy Strong and, surprisingly so, Brian d'Arcy James was the funniest of them all.

There was also the element of gambling but presented in a sexy tone like Ocean's Elevenk, and that kept the interest on the main plot which contained a lot of legal issues that may not be too easy to follow. Coupled that with the speed and amount of words from the script, the visuals will have to be interesting enough to keep the audience's attention.

I am very much looking forward to Sorkin's next movie.
