Andy Serkis' Mowgli sold to Netflix By WB

Andy Serkis and WB's take on The Jungle Book, titled Mowgli, has just been sold to Netflix and will not get a theatrical release as planned for October this year.

According to Deadline which spoke to director Andy Serkis, the move can now "avoid comparisons with the other movie and it's a relief not to have the pressure."

However, as the director, Serkis can't be too pleased about this move no matter what his public statement reads as I suspect is a decision made solely by WB. The movie in comparison as mentioned by Serkis is Disney's The Jungle Book live-action and CGI hybrid directed by Jon Favreau that came out in 2016.

It was so well received that WB decided to delay Mowgli until this year. But I guess the reception has not been completely positive with the first trailer as comparisons were still happening two years later, so they decided to approach Netflix.

This also puts into question about the 3D works that have been put in by Serkis and his team because without the cinema release the 3D would not work.

Let's see what the next few months will transpire as Netflix is now finding a date for release.
