According to ComingSoon, J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm have confirmed the cast for the upcoming, untitled Star Wars Episode IX.
The new names which were recently announced are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell; as well as Billy Dee Williams making his return to the franchise.
What we did not know until now is that Abrams' story will not be a time jump far into the future where Leia Organa has passed on. According to Abrams, "We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing of her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie's legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII."
So this will put the internet to rest as to how the franchise will proceed with the sudden departure of Fisher.
I am happy to hear this news. "This will begin to make things right," again - the first step to bring the unsatisfied fans back to the franchise. But the question still remain, will this final chapter satisfy all Star Wars fans? Or will it cement the split in the fandom?
