Damien Chazelle's talent is becoming apparent. Whiplash was a revelation. La La Land was pure joy. First Man proved that he is pure talent.

From Whiplash to La La Land to First Man, you can't really tell these three movies were from the same director. Chazelle caters so perfectly to each of the genre. The only thing that clearly connected the three was Justin Hurwitz's music, which unfortunately I did not think suited as much for First Man.

And if any actor is going to be nominated for an Oscar from this project, it would have to be Jason Clarke. I did not even see Clarke, but only his character. Every scene he was in was so good.

And any scene he wasn't in, sometimes felt a little draggy - especially in the second act. When Gosling's character was with his family, sometimes I sat in the chair and wondered if the movie could have done without these scenes.

Gosling, Stoll and Foy were great. But I don't know why Chandler always looked irritated, even when he was delivering good news. Still, it was a very good ensemble with very good performances all around.

And when we finally landed on the moon, that quietness coupled with the visual; it was as if I was there with them. Sharone Meir's cinematography was on point here. When we were inside the rocket's cockpit, I felt that sense of claustrophobia because I could feel how tight the space was.

This also marked the third consecutive time Chazelle ended his movie in a similar fashion as his previous two. If you don't know what I mean, be aware. It is quite something.
