[Review] Smallfoot (7/10)

Title - Smallfoot
Studio - Warner Animation Group

Writer - Glenn Ficarra, Karey Kirkpatrick, Sergio Pablos, John Requa
Director - Karey Kirkpatrick
Release - 28 September 2018

I was surprised at how good the story actually was because with how quiet its premiere has been, I thought the quality may not be up to par.

There is still some truth to that but overall, I thought it was a great story and another one of those reversal, outside look at us human beings as a species.

Channing Tatum also surprised me with voicing the lead role. He was charming, likeable and really a character that you could follow and get behind. Danny DeVito provided great support to beef up a weaker cast, and LeBron James once again was surprisingly good.

The songs from inside the movie were the weakest parts. They were unmemorable and probably because Zendaya is just not a good singer. Her mediocre singing voice was always overpowered by the music. Common, on the other hand, did a rap song and that was the only one that stood out. However, his voice-acting was not even close.

The animation work was more than adequate coming from Warner, but I thought the direction when it came to the musical was very underwhelming. Kirkpatrick showed more flair when it came to the humour and comedy, as that's mostly where this movie shined.

And that ending of acceptance carried a great message for the audience of all ages.
