[Review] Silence (9/10)

This was one of the best movies to have come out back in 2016, but not many people saw it. Perhaps its heavy subject matter also made it a barrier.

Silence was a slow burn, and Martin Scorsese really took his time to progress the movie. It also had a long running time, so again, that did not bode well with getting people into the cinemas.

But if you take two hours and really dive into appreciating the movie, you will find it was beautiful and also heartbreaking at the same time.

The dialogue was some of the best I have witnessed in the past few years. It boasted many verbal sparring sessions and Andrew Garfield was at the forefront. There were two unforgettable ones, one with Liam Neeson and the other with Asano Tadanobu. However, I would also be the first to say, Garfield's performance was not as memorable as it should have been.

And with Scorsese directing, you can always count on the Asian culture being represented very realistically. At times it almost felt like a classic Japanese movie.

Silence should have been nominated for Best Picture that year.
