Deadline has reported that the movie is being postponed five months, from 22 March 2019 to 9 August 2019.
It is a weird move because March seems like the perfect time before all the summer blockbuster's razzle and dazzle.
But if the intention was to move it closer to the award season so that Blanchett's performance will still be fresher in the minds of the voter; then yes, August would be better. However, if you are already moving this five months, why not another month so that it would be at the end of September, just before award-vying movies come out in October?
Instead, the August date will see the movie opening with Guillermo del Toro's Scary Movies We Tell In The Dark and Disney's Artemis Fowl. Both equally tough competitors, though Bernadette would be a good counter programming.
