This was a slow, slow burn right from the start. And to be honest, I didn't think it really took off at any point right up until the end.
But this was definitely another great Ethan Hawke performance, which was quiet and subdued throughout; and again, right up until the end of the movie.
I could also see why the screenplay has gotten some accolades or nominations. But it was just a plateau for the most part, and the subject of the story was definitely not for everyone.
Still, it was a very well directed film by Paul Schrader and he kept pace and consistency throughout, which made it a decent investment to sit through.
