[Review] The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (7.5/10)

Title - The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part
Studio - Warner Bros. Pictures
Starring - Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz
Writer - Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Matthew Fogel
Director - Mike Mitchell
Release - 8 February 2019

I'm very certain that with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller coming back to give input in the screenplay, they have elevated the story and the jokes in this movie.

But I did miss their direction because the first one had more funny scenes and punchier editing. Don't get me wrong, Mike Mitchell did a very serviceable effort following the footsteps of the directing duo. However, the middle part of this movie was a little slow and the jokes got a little bit stale.

The payoff, though, was that final 15 to 20 minutes that took the movie to a whole different level - just like the first movie. But the heart that the story had in that final minutes, that saved the entire first two halves.

As a sequel, the story was a very respectable piece of writing; and bringing in the Duplo from this angle was such a brilliant idea. I am continuously surprised by how innovative, and how much fan-service, and the whole "lore" of the LEGO toys were included into this movie. Not to mention, the end credits song by Beck and featuring The Lonely Planet and Robyn is one you would want to stay behind for.

Those are enough to make me want to go back and rewatch the movie again - which I will very soon.

And maybe after a second watch, I might change my score.
