[Editorial] Disney Rehires James Gunn For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

Many probably saw this coming, but according to Deadline today, Walt Disney Pictures has reinstated James Gunn for the next instalment of Guardians Of The Galaxy, assumed to be titled Vol. 3.

This news definitely is what us fans want to hear, a bit of justice served in the age where the Internet is a rife place for toxicity.

Disney is also allowing Gunn to finish off the reboot / new Suicide Squad first before going back to directing Guardians. Even though his script is already ready to go, which was recently confirmed that Marvel would use; however, The Suicide Squad is scheduled for 6 August 2021. Meaning, the earliest Gunn can start filming is after the press tour for DC (make no mistake DC and WB are going to use him as much as they can).

Therefore, the earliest we can see Guardians back on their solo movie is end of 2022. That means it will be around 3.5 to 4 years at the earliest, after the events Avengers: Endgame. Will Gunn's Guardians script survive that long or still be relevant? Because if he needs to do some rewrite, it will prolong the whole process again which may mean 5 years before we get to see it.

Unless, Guardians Vol. 3 takes place before Endgame. Will Marvel even consider going back? If Spider-Man: Far From Home is before Endgame, which there has been rumours of, then perhaps there will be a chance for Guardians to be as well.
