[Review] Holmes & Watson (4/10)

Studio - Sony Pictures
Starring - Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Ralph Feinnes, Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie
Writer - Etan Cohen
Director - Etan Cohen
Release - 21 December 2018

I now know why this was voted as one of the worst, or the worst, movies of last year. I finally managed to watch it while on a plane back from Brisbane.

In the first act, I thought the critics and cinemagoers have gotten this wrong. It was silly, stupid but it was fun and entertaining. And it's exactly what I expected from Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

However as the movie progressed in the second act, it got tired and repetitive. The story didn't seem to go anywhere and the jokes just did not land like it used to because it was more of the same.

And in the third act as the story closed out, it was not enough. It tried to do a few things, but it was just weak and not believable because Ferrell's character was reaching for a point that the audience members were not feeling.

The best part of the movie was the opening, and that of course was a problem for the entire vehicle.
