[Review] The Wife (8.5/10)
Title - The Wife
Studio - Sony Pictures Classics
Starring - Glenn Close, Jonathan Pryce, Christian Slater, Max Irons
Writer - Jane Anderson
Director - Bjorn L. Runge
Release - 17 August 2018
A clever observation I heard was that Glenn Close carried the entire movie, just like how her character carried her husband.
Close's performance was spectacular from start to finish. Every time the camera rested on her, every muscle on her face was acting. Her emotions were palpable as she reacted to Jonathan Pryce's character.
And I'm surprised that Pryce's performance did not get more attention, because he also provided the energy for Close to work off of.
The way the plot uncovered slowly, if you have never seen the trailers, was just delicious. And after knowing what the movie was about, the re-watchable value has increased so much because Close's acting had even more to give in the beginning.
Close's win at the Golden Globe was well deserved, and her Oscar lost was probably a tighter race then we realized.
