[Review] Stan & Ollie (9/10)
Title - Stan & Ollie
Studio - Sony Pictures Classic
Starring - Steve Coogan, John C. Reilly, Shirley Henderson, Nina Arianda, Danny Huston
Writer - Jeff Pope
Director - John S. Baird
Release - 28 December 2018
This was probably the most beautiful roles Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly have ever done. Now, I have never seen any of the Laurel and Hardy movies or comedy, but I believe their spirits had been captured and I now would like to find out more about them.
And judging from this movie, Laurel and Hardy would not have been this version of Laurel and Hardy without their wives; played by Shirley Hendersona nd Nina Arianda. They both played off each other just like how Coogan and Reilly had to.
And John S. Baird's direction, especially with showing what the duo performed on stage, was brilliantly executed because I could not help but laugh out loud - giving us audience a hint of just how comedic the duo were.
The story of their friendship was what won me over. So many times with Coogan's expression while looking at Reilly's Oliver Hardy, or Reilly's expression just doing what he's doing; moved me to tears multiple times.
I just can't believe this had zero attention during the Oscars.
