Onward was the last movie I saw before the cinema closures happened, just as well as no new movies were going to release anyway. But such a shame for Onward, though, as the movie is not doing well worldwide.

There really was no way to properly market this movie in the trailers because you can't reveal too much or spoil the surprise. And I was pleasantly surprise sitting through the story as it moved from plot to plot. And as someone who dreamed of these sorts of adventures when I was a child, I really appreciated what the movie wanted to do.

In the centre of it all, it's not the movie that the trailer showed us. Because at the end of it, it really was about a relationship that was something else. And it was a lot more than that because Tom Holland's character really had an arc that showed his growth. And it was really fulfilling to see.

As with most Pixar movies, the humour was on point, the relationships between the characters drove most of the storytelling, and the heart of the story hit all the bulls-eyes that there should not be any dry eye in the cinema at the end of it. You will feel it the most if you have ever lost a family member.

Dan Scanlon did such a beautiful job directing this, taking this seemingly impossible story to be told in one sitting and making it so effective and impactful.
