Writer - Billy Ray
Director - Clint Eastwood
Release - 13 December 2019

This was a movie that I did not manage to catch earlier before I did my top 10 of last year, because it would have made the 10th spot.

Clint Eastwood still knows how to make a kick-ass movie. The way he told this story was masterful. It should come as no surprise; but just with the subject matter, just with how he unfolded the story, I could not help but felt super impressed. Scene by scene, we got to understand the story, the characters, and then the character arc of Richard Jewell himself.

And playing Jewell was Paul Walter Hauser. How does he not get the first billing on the poster is beyond me. He was clearly the main star, his performance was brilliant, and if he didn't get first billing just because his name is not "sexy" - well, then it's very much like the character he so beautifully portrayed.

Alongside Hauser, Sam Rockwell was again a rock for the movie. It's not about him showing something we have never seen before; but it's about the little things he brought to his character, the way he played the character to drive the story, everything was just better with him onscreen.

And then there was the Oscar nominated performance of Kathy Bates. Her performance throughout the movie was quite limited, but when she was given the spotlight to shine, she will make you cry.

It really was a shame that this movie made no money at all because no one watched, because there was virtually no marketing for it. But it was one of last year's best.
