[Review] The Tax Collector (3.5/10)

Title - The Tax Collector
Studio - RLJE Films
Starring - Bobby Soto, Shia LaBeouf, Lana Parilla, George Lopez
Writer - David Ayer
Director - David Ayer
Release - 7 August 2020

Shia LaBeouf is an amazing actor. He's supposed to be playing the number 2 to Bobby Soto's number 1, but LaBeouf was in control the whole time. He was the one that looked more menacing and scarier than any one else.

In the whole cast he was the only one acting like he was aiming for an Academy Award. Everyone else did not even come close. The lines were so pathetic and there was barely any characterization that I sometimes could not even tell the female characters apart.

I was really hoping that David Ayer could at least capture some of the magic in Fury, but he is really showing why I did not think that much of him right from the beginning. He shot this movie like it was a dramatic Latin music video. Everything felt on the surface and trite.

I heard a report that LaBeouf tattooed the whole front of his body for the role. I immediately joked that maybe he already wanted the tattoo even before the movie, and now he got the studio to pay for it - like Kumail Nanjiani.

But after seeing the movie, where you only saw those tattoo one brief glimpse, the joke isn't funny anymore.
