I'm impressed that Netflix has two original movies out in the same month that are really, really good. One was The Guilty, and Kate also a movie with quality.
There was nothing original about the plot. In fact, it's been done so many times that the "one last job and that's it" can roll some eyes at this point. So it was all down to the execution, and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan has impressed because his last movie, The Huntsman: Winter's War was mediocre.
Also, the production budget here looked really significant. The actors can do so much, but to shoot on location in Japan and to have some kick-ass choreography (even though it's child's play when compared to The Raid) really made the movie legit.
Even though Woody Harrelson played a typical character in these types of movies, he was still able to add his flavour into the character to make it more fun. Miku Patricia Martineau, contrary to what others would have done, was not an annoying kid character. She was well written with different dimensions and the actress can act really well.
And Mary Elizabeth Winstead was a legitimate action hero here. She looked like she can take a punch, not to mention throw her own.
