This movie was solely driven by the performance and magnetism of Jessica Chastain, as well as Andrew Garfield. Garfield has had a good year, but this was only his third best performance.
Chastain is a shoo-in for this year's Oscar. Right from her first scene you could tell the kind of character she was portraying. And the story naturally always centered around her character and her relationship with Garfield's. And then chronicled the rise and decline of her evangelistic activities. Chastain wanted to inform how unjust she was treated back then and I thought she succeeded.
At the end of the day, however, the story wasn't something that was memorable. Having watched this weeks ago, all I remember now is that it was beautifully shot and beautifully acted.
