First thing that jumped out at me was that Sony and Amy Pascal were producers. Instead, it was Columbia Pictures and only Avi Arad.
The first act of the movie was of the standard flair and that was fine. But once Morbius showed up, the writing seemed to have fallen apart. Actually, not only the writing but the editing also felt wonky in parts.
There should have been more focus on Jared Leto, Matt Smith and Jared Harris. I wouldn't have minded if they spent another 10 or 15 minutes on the segment of "30 Years Ago".
And over the course of the movie, we really didn't get a sense of the rules for Morbius' super powers. Even in the final fight, I had no idea what was going on. At one point it seemed like Morbius was doing a "hadoken" but with bats. It was even cringe-worthy, and I didn't know how that was affecting his opponent.
Like Venom, it's CGI heavy. But at least Venom's CGI fight scenes were more entertaining than this, partly also because we have no idea what these characters were capable of. I still have no idea what exactly will happen if Morbius is deprived of blood, does he lose his powers or revert back to a cripple, or both? Or die? Or cannot shape shift into a man-bat?
There was only one cool-ish scene, which was when Morbius discovered he could fly. Also, you can't say Leto didn't give his all for the character, because he did with what he was given. Same can be said of Smith, whose character was more interesting than Morbius.
