[Review] Men (7/10)

Title - Men
Production - DNA Films, A24
Starring - Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, Paapa Essiedu, Gayle Rankin, Sarah Twomey
Writer - Alex Garland
Director - Alex Garland
Release - 20 May 2022

Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear were directed so well by Alex Garland in this. A small, intimate movie but with a fantastical plot.

Garland is a great sci-fi director. And I would say this was his first foray into horror; as well as it wasn't a home run. Some of the tension-building should have been stronger, but his world-building and a consistency in pulling a thread that incited suspense from beginning to end was masterful.

But at the end, while a scary and suspenseful story, the message to leave with the audience was not clear. A lot of metaphor, not unlike Darren Aronofsky's mother!; and a lot of visuals that boggled the mind, leaving me unsatisfied once the credit started rolling.
