If you are a fan of comedy and Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, then you would likely enjoy this. But if you are not, then Spirited has very little to offer.
And if you are critical like me when singing and dancing, which are a big part of a musical; Ferrell and Reynolds, and Octavia Spencer for that matter, had "adequate" to offer. Sure, they sound adequate in their recording; but when the choir came in or when they needed to drag a note... no chance. Their vocals had no power to sustain or rise above the choir.
The story tried to be heartwarming but it was just... adequately so. The big turning point of a scene at the hospital was not enough to hit home to pull at the heartstrings.
The only factor that it had going for it was some of the musical numbers were really good, since they were written by the same duo who wrote for The Greatest Showman, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
