There is so much joy in this movie, definitely one of Steven Spielberg's best.

This was a masterful storytelling with impeccable pacing that kept the movie going at a constant and consistent speed, which I really appreciated because not once did I thought of time. And same goes to the editing and cinematography, they really created a very consistent picture.

The acting in this movie didn't stood out as much; of course, most notable were Michelle Williams and Judd Hirsch who were both nominated this year. However, in Williams' case, I would have been fine if her slot was given to someone else like, say, Margot Robbie. But the way she portrayed the mother figure, her presence was always felt throughout the movie, no matter what scene it was, for better or worse for the young protagonist.

And every time he picked up his camera to make a movie, the way Spielberg directed, there was always so much joy in that process that you can't help but feel that this was his path to lose.

One of my favourite scenes here was how Spielberg told the sub plot with the bullies. The way it turned out was out of left field, in such a good way that no one would have expected it. And there was so much characterization in it.
