Sam Levinson lately seems to be the master of dysfunctional relationship. That's the whole premise of Deep Water.

A messed up relationship that should not be continued and yet the two main characters just can't take the next logical step.

However, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas played those characters so convincingly that you have no choice but to follow them on this journey.

The first and second acts were really well done in keeping up with the suspense, and the horrors as they unfolded. Like the main characters, whether or not such a community exists, it's really up for debate; lending or unlending to the credulity of it all.

Still, it was a fun ride to go along.

The third act was where it fell apart a little for me. Maybe in the book it was described convincingly. But when Tracy Letts' character found Affleck's character in the woods, that was very random. You could argue that yes, he does have a lot of free time in his hands; but I just didn't see this particular character would be willing to get his hands dirty in that way. Then again, I'm not a novel writer, what do I know?
