For the Godzilla and King Kong franchises, what audience want to see are these "monsters" in action. We don't need all the human nonsense, just give us monster action. Luckily, this instalment is the closest one we have ever gotten.
But then again, I didn't care much for the little ape. And I didn't care much for that new glove for Kong either. Those were very fluff to me. Even Mothra's appearance was just alright. It was really the last 15 minutes or so that kind of did it for me. And there was that money shot of Kong and Godzilla rushing the "bad guys" together.
The character development this time focused more on Kong, so this really felt more like a Kong movie with Godzilla appearing in it; though the movie's title told a different, opposing story. But seeing Kong going into a new land and immediately exerted dominance over the native creatures somehow felt like the colonizer's tale all over again.
