This looked like the beginnings of the decline of Pixar studio's reign when it came to original animated movies. The pandemic really caused a crack in its armour that we'll have to see if the brains behind it can fix.
Elio was a great space adventure and I loved it. And I almost didn't watch it because it just came out so suddenly without the usual strength in its marketing or word-of-mouth.
I also read the terrible changes that had to be made even after the movie was made with the original director, Adrian Molina. Test screenings were abysmal and then he was replaced with Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian. Also, the initial orientation of the lead character was supposed to be queer.
But if the movie still played out the way it did, I don't think it mattered but that's just me.
This story, like all Pixar stories, was filled with heart and great character arc. And reminded me of Star Wars more than once.
