[Review] The Roses (8.5/10)

When you put two great actors together like Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, the movie just works.

The story took its time to build up their relationship and family life, and how it descended into their own misery. I thought the New York trip was a little too convenient for them to spiral, and perhaps should have focused more on the kids subplot; which I really enjoyed.

I thought I wanted a more serious Andy Samberg in his first dramatic role in Lee, but he was on point with the humour. So was Kate McKinnon. I only wished we got more of Alison Janney. She probably had a couple more scenes that ended up on the cutting floor.

And that choice as the movie's ending was a courageous one. I didn't see that coming and that's probably why it was chosen as the ending.
