2012
The trailer didn't look impressive at all. How many times have we seen the end of the world? But I'm glad to say that aesthetically this looked great. But unfortunately, that's all the movie can boast. The best bits all involved a vehicle fleeing from impending doom. Especially the first disaster scene in the city, culminating in the car crashing into a falling building and out again. The visuals were outstanding. And the adrenalin certainly wasn't left out.But towards the final quarter, the storyline seemed to fall apart. The drama induced felt too forced and unrealistic at most parts. The worst plot was when they couldn't start the engine for the lark just because of one lousy door that couldn't be shut properly. For a 21st century ship, now this was kind of stupid. And when Cusack didn't swim back immediately, that was just unnecessary drama really.I personally didn't feel the length of the movie. I thought the pacing was well done. The direction was equally good as there wasn't a time when I felt bored or my mind wandered elsewhere. However, whenever the "science guys" came on to talk about physics and what not, it all sounded ridiculously silly. I guess no matter how well the lines were written for scenarios like these, once delivered they would come out as funny mumbo jumbo.Rating: 6 / 10
