Knight And Day (5/10)
[caption id="attachment_1603" align="alignleft" width="94" caption="(imdb.com)"][/caption]In the trailer, Tom Cruise's character gave the impression that he could be a loon. Especially when he proclaimed to a whole diner with Cameron Diaz in his captivity that, "I will kill myself and then kill her."But in the movie, he wasn't as suspicious as he was made out to be. Yes, he had that almost deadpan calmness in his speaking manner amidst flying bullets around him, which I appreciated the humour in it; but the only thing the audience wasn't sure of was of his intention.Like Killers, this was another spy movie but with a much bigger budget and a better thought out story by writer Patrick O'Neill, though I still don't understand why the title Knight And Day.But for director James Mangold, this was nothing compared to what he had given us previously which included 3:10 To Yuma and Walk The Line. All the best humour bits were already seen in the trailer, nothing else in the movie brought more laughter than the line mentioned above or that shootout scene in the warehouse where Cruise asked Diaz, "What number would you like?"And the action weren't all that exciting. There were a few great visual excitement (a van flipping over Cruise in one of the car chase scenes comes to mind) and good hand-to-hand combats but nothing really to boast about. What went well for the movie was the progression to keep at least some excitement and entertainment level up. Plus great chemistry between the two leads. But in the end, it wasn't that funny nor exciting enough for a comedy-action.
