Step Up 3D (6/10)
There's a thin, thin plot. And director John M. Chu had a bit of trouble bringing real drama and emotions into the scenes. But when it came to dancing, everything exploded. And I've only watched this on 2D. But what could 3D do for this movie, I do wonder. Does dance movies really need to be 3D? Then again, does Justin Bieber really need a 3D movie?I think Chu has really got the hang of dance movies now. Each time the camera pans to a dance scene, especially the first one early on in the movie, it really drew the audience in and created something special. This one has probably the best dance choreography among all three Step Up movies. Especially the other crews battling out our heroes, the first two rounds I actually felt they did better than the Pirates. The main two leads suffered a lot because they were more of an actor than the rest of the cast who were predominantly "professional" dancers. So in the group dance, they were seriously out shined. And when they did their little "duet", nothing special came from that. But granted, they were there to push the story forward; though I thought the character Moose would have sufficed if his story was broaden.Acting and story of course wasn't what this movie was about. It's about dance and the beauty of dance. And in that aspect, Chu really delivered. And personally, I enjoyed seeing some LXD dancers and Twitch. Joshua Allen should have had more screen time than what he had which was pathetic. Bad promise by Adam Shankman. From this movie, Twitch seemed like the winner instead from Season 4 of SYTYCD.
