Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (10/10)

I don't believe I have ever uttered "awesome" so many times throughout a movie. Right from the first second when Universal Pictures' logo came on in 16-bit, I haven't stopped smiling until the very last second of the movie, interspersed with many a laughter in between.

First, I have to say, you will either dislike this movie or you will love it. I absolutely loved it. From its premise, to its comedy, to the action, and to its fantasy; everything was pure bliss. Even when it was over-the-top, it was over-the-top in the perfect dose.

The movie was shot not only like a video game but also like a comic book with many stage setup that looked like they could have jumped directly out of a comic strip. Ang Lee's Hulk and Kick-Ass both did too but never to this blatant extent. Credits to director Edgar Wright for really pulling this off so beautifully. Especially when there were so much transitions between scenes and locations and mood, but Wright somehow managed to seamlessly weave them all into this awesome piece of art.

Let's not forget the awesome soundtrack that was included perfectly into the scenes that they were chosen for. They added even more value to the scenes they were meant to emphasised.

The dialogue and humour were also perfectly written and executed by a cast that was just fantastic. Michael Cera lived and breathed his part as only he could and knows how. Mary Elizabeth Winstead had to make the audience feel what Cera's character felt in just a few scenes and Winstead won hands down. Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick and the rest of the cast were just perfect in their own roles. Even cameos such as Brandon Routh, Thomas Jane and Chris Evans added more fun into the mix.

The only time I felt that the movie suddenly lost steam was when it was time for Jason Schwartzman to show up. However, this lasted only briefly. Everything picked right up again once the confrontation began.

What really made this movie was the story that was adapted from the graphic novels. There were multiple levels of depth that the character Scott Pilgrim was dealing with and it made him so interesting to follow. This was just a fantastically well made piece of work and it was a joy to have experienced it.

The only regret I have was not to have seen this on the silver screen. I can't believe they didn't bother to bring this in. I want to give this movie a 9.5 but I have decided not to do decimals so this means I have to round this off to a perfect 10 - the first movie that I am bestowing perfection to. Though it pains me to rate it higher than Kick-Ass but it really deserved it.

Best movie of 2010.
