The Book Of Eli (6/10)

This was a much, much more enjoyable performance by Denzel Washington as compared to what I've seen him previously because this character was not something that's common for him. Playing the cool loneman with killer moves, and with a story of his own that went deeper than meets the eye. However, the story never allowed him to go into the deeper end.

There's a minor twist at the end that I just couldn't agree with. Unlike The Sixth Sense, where the final twist brought another layer to the movie, this one was gimmicky, unnecessary and added no value other than wanting to be a bit more dramatic.

Gary Oldman also gave another great performance. I enjoyed more seeing him as the bad guy than say, in the recent Batman movies. His performances are just more magnetic as someone that you should be afraid of.

But as this wasn't a fantasy movie, I didn't get how he bullets could miss him - or was it just because he was holding the book. And also I didn't see why Mila Kunis' character should follow him around, leaving her mother behind. Another easy and lazy way out for the writers to move the story along.

Other than that, the action sequences were good enough, the cinematography pleased visually, and it had somewhat a conclusive ending - minus Kunis again in the end as she couldn't even fend for herself in the beginning. No, she shouldn't have a spin-off.
