The Roommate (4/10)

And here I thought, finally someone spotted the similarities and put them together in a movie. How wrong was I. Even worse, the similarities between Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester were almost never addressed. But... why?

Imagine a graph and draw a straight horizontal line at 4 on the y-axis. That's how the entire movie was. The story was barely passable, but it was the direction that had some jarring flaws.

This is the 21st century, and to be shooting movies like this is shameful. Think of this scene where Meester's character whispered Cam Gigandet character's name to get his attention just as he passed her in between the rows of books in a library. Gigandet paused and turned around and she was no longer there. Now, in real life, for this to happen, Meester would have to scurry frantically from that row to create this supposed mystery. And if anyone had seen that, it would be seriously funny.

Also, another scene involving Meester and Aly Michalka in the shower, to be creeping in and out of the bathroom and play with the lights and the water tap, Meester again would have to look really silly to pull that off.

But all these were no fault of the actors. In fact, they all did decently well - though using Nina Dobrev was quite a waste with that one scene. It's just the events created in the story bordered on silliness and just wasn't scary or thrilling enough.

And how about the fact that all of the female cast were hot chicks from recent popular television shows: Meester from Gossip Girl, Michalka from Hell Cats, Kelly from Friday Night Lights, Dobrev and also Katerina Graham from The Vampire Diaries, and Daneel Harris from One Tree Hill. And throw in Matt Lanter from 90210. I also first got to know Gigandet from The O.C. Billy Zane was the odd one out.
