I'll give new director-writer Daniel Barnz a bit of credit here for he did manage to create some emotionally dark moments, or just some pure "emo-ness", and he captured them perfectly through the lens. However, that's the only good thing about the movie. His writing, especially the dialogue, were trite and unoriginal. Not inspiring at all and another failed attempt at modernising a classic children's story (like Red Riding Hood).
Plus it didn't help when the two leads, Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens, had no chemistry and didn't find their groove through Barnz's direction and writing. None of their performances felt natural throughout.
The only good actor with some good acting here was Neil Patrick Harris, and I don't even think he should have been in this movie in the first place. (And I probably wouldn't have gone and seen it too because it was really a complete waste of time.)
Hollywood, please stop destroying our chidhood memories.
