Let The Bullets Fly (7/10)

Bullets-poster
This was a surprise, and a nice surprise at that. An action comedy that never ceases to entertain with the charisma of its cast and the amusement of the political satire that the movie was weaved around.

The cast was the main reason for much of the success of this film, I thought. From Chow Yun Fat, Jiang Wen and Ge You to Carina Lau; the performances were absolutely fantastic to watch. And I haven't seen Chow in such an enjoyable role in a long time, enjoyable for him doing it and enjoyable to us watching him do it.

And I can't believe I have never seen Jiang Wen before this past year. He is such a charismatic actor and is always magnetic on the silver screen. Not to mention a fine director as well. Some of the comedic scenes were most effective.

However, unlike Hollywood (well, most Hollywood), the special effects used were sometimes quite horrible. Even being a satirical movie, some of the CGI used didn't suit what the movie and the story because it was too fantasy-like. Had Jiang kept it more down-to-earth, it would have been an even better film overall.
