Blue Valentine (7/10)

It was kind of slow-paced and uneventful but I did enjoy the realistic take on a relationship and how it all went downhill after the honeymoon period.

The acting of course by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams were fantastic and top-notched. That was probably one of the main thing fuelling the slow story progression. And Faith Wladyka playing their daughter was absolutely adorable. Director and writer Derek Cianfrance did a beautiful job directing the movie with the reality style of hand-held camera. I thought that added a lot of the feel of the storytelling to the movie.

Somehow though, I found Gosling's character someone I really do not want to become. And for me to be able to associate with that character, for me to be able to dislike him the way I did, shows that I have that characteristic inside of me, maybe? Otherwise I wouldn't have felt so strongly about it. I guess the ability to recognise it is half the battle.

But full credit to Gosling for being able to bring out that character in such a real manner. A wonderful piece of acting from the leads.
