I'm talking about the sequence when the rescue mission began in the separatists compound, just before the torture began. It's just crazy how that part was written. All logic was discarded to make room for some action. Rupert Friend and Richard Coyle's characters wanted to keep Emmanuelle Chriqui's character safe but then they dragged her right into the heart of danger just so they can capture the story.
It's as if the writers had no clue how to mix logic, drama and action, and came up with this fluff piece. What a waste of a potentially good movie.
I wouldn't have minded if the movie turned out to be more of a documentary type rather than a Hollywood movie since in the beginning it was shown that the movie was dedicated to all the war journalists. Not to mention that a lot of how the movie was shot had a good mix of documentary flair and cinematography - which the director Renny Harlin was both. But I don't remember any of hs previous movies that gave me this inclination.
The dialogue as well was very weak throughout the movie. The actors threw out lines hoping they would make sense to the audience but I just found it very trite.
Not all was lost as the actors all were adequate considering the resources they had to begin with. Val Kilmer looked he had fun and was a bundle of joy - with his extra weight gained - to watch. Antje Traue looked kind of sexy and hot as she followed the soldiers into the front lines snapping away in one sequence.
And the movie really showed the danger and risks that these war journalists had to take everyday in their job. That particular message was loud and clear.
